Scientific work is one of the most important types of activity of the teaching staff of the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Teaching Methods, which is a graduation course for 6 educational programs for training future specialists-teachers of three levels of higher education. Conducting scientific work ensures continuous improvement of the educational process on the basis of theoretical and applied research in the areas of training future specialists and the introduction of practical developments and methodological recommendations into educational activities. Today, the department employs 15 teachers: 5 doctors and 7 candidates of sciences, 1 senior lecturer, 2 assistants. Scientific research is conducted within the framework of the department's comprehensive topics: "Theoretical and methodological principles of fundamental training of future physics teachers and specialists in the field of nanomaterials science for professional activity" (registration number: 0121U109417) and "Theoretical and methodological aspects of introducing innovative technologies into the process of teaching mathematics in the systems of general secondary and pedagogical higher education" (registration number: 0116U008837).
The department is the initiator of the organization and holding of the All-Ukrainian (with international participation) scientific and practical conferences "Continuous Physics and Mathematics Education: Problems, Searches, Prospects" (2007, 2009), "Research and Research Work in the System of Training Specialist Teachers in Natural Sciences, Technological and Computer Sciences" (2011 - 2023), the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Science. Innovations. Quality" (2020), dedicated to discussing topical issues of the development of natural sciences education in Ukraine; ways of effective implementation of innovative approaches and computer-oriented technologies in the professional training of future teachers and engineering teachers; expanding scientific ties of university scientists with scientists from different regions of Ukraine and other countries. The co-organizers of the conferences were: the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, the M.P. Dragomanov National Pedagogical University, the Higher Technical School in Katowice (Poland), the Higher School of Economics and Management of Public Administration (Bratislava, Slovakia), the Higher School of Management and Administration (Opole, Poland), the Honored Autonomous University of Puebla (Mexico), the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences (Austria). At various times, the department successfully cooperates with the V.E. Lashkarev Institute of Semiconductors of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine (Department of General Secondary Education and Digitalization of Educational Systems), Kharkiv Polytechnic University, the Physical and Chemical Laboratory of the Technological University in Tunisia, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and the Research Center of the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico.
The department's teachers are authors and co-authors of textbooks, monographs, teaching aids (including those with the seal of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine), numerous patents and inventions, publications in domestic and international scientific professional periodicals, including the Scopus and Web of Science databases; heads of state budget topics and grant projects, fellows of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for young scientists, experts of the National Academy of Higher Education and Science of Ukraine, members of the Expert Council and the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for the examination of state budget projects and certification of HEIs of Ukraine in terms of their implementation of scientific (scientific and technical) activities; members of editorial boards of professional publications, reviewers in journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science; winners of various international and all-Ukrainian creative scientific competitions. Thus, in particular, the textbook “Curriculum for Generalizing Students’ Knowledge in Theoretical Physics” won the All-Ukrainian competition of the National Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine for the best scientific publication of 2022 (nomination “best textbook”). In 2023, the master of the m2pfn group Vladyslav Bondarenko took 3rd place in the competition of the Council of Young Scientists of the BDPU (nomination: “Scientific Breakthrough, Applicant)”. In 2024, the applicant of the second (master’s) level of higher education of the m2fi-z group S. Kamulya won the All-Ukrainian competition of scientific works for students “Methodology of Teaching Subjects (Disciplines) of the Physics and Mathematics Cycle in Educational Institutions” (topic of the work: “Formation of Subject Competence of Students in Physics in Conditions of Interactive Learning”; scientific supervisor – O. Shkola).
The department's teachers are members of the permanent specialized academic council D 18.092.01 of the BDPU for the defense of dissertations for the degree of Doctor (Candidate) of Pedagogical Sciences in the following specialties: 13.00.02 - Theory and Methods of Teaching (Physics); 13.00.04 - Theory and Methods of Vocational Education; supervisors, reviewers and opponents of dissertations. The department's teachers are organizers of research work of higher education applicants, supervisors of qualification (coursework, master's) works, including participants and winners of All-Ukrainian competitions of scientific works for student youth by specialty; members of the jury of the competition of scientific and research works of students-members of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine of Zaporizhia region (scientific department: "Physics and Astronomy"); competition for gifted youth of Zaporizhia region (nomination "Science").
The results of the research work of the department's teachers, postgraduate students and higher education students are regularly published at international and all-Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences and seminars, in domestic and foreign periodicals. Thus, in particular, during 2000 - 2024, the department's teachers became authors and co-authors of about 200 scientific and educational and methodological works. Among them: 7 monographs, 10 textbooks, including those with the seal of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 75 articles in domestic and international periodicals (21 - in the Scopus and Web of Science databases), 105 abstracts of reports to scientific and practical conferences (including 65 - together with higher education students of the BDPU). In 2022, the Department of Physics and Physics Teaching Methods took the honorable 1st place in the scientific rating among all departments of the University.
Continuous improvement of the material and technical base of teaching disciplines, combination of educational and research work in the professional training of future teachers, establishment and expansion of contacts with the domestic and foreign academic community through participation in research programs, grants, advanced training courses and internships are the priority tasks of the scientific work of the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Teaching Methods.
